Description : | Pen and ink drawing with a mat and framed in a frame. The drawing shows a small village in the middle with a fenced field in the foreground with several sheep, and a body of water in the background small boats. A cliff is shown in the upper left background |
Commentaires : | The painting is a copy of an engraving by F.B. Schell titled Grand Pre, and Basin of Minas, from Wolfville.' 'In the centre is the Methodist Church. At the right is the house now occupied by Mr. Harmon, with a carriage passing along Gaspereau Avenue. The pasture in the foreground is now intersected by Acadia and Prospect Streets, the large tree at the left standing at that time some distance east of the school yard.' Annie Florence Nightingale Beals, nee Smith was born June 17, 1866 in New Brunswick. She attended the Acadia Ladies Seminary in Wolfville, where she found her interest in painting. She married Rev. Francis Harris Parker Beals, b. 1856 - d. 1927, and had four children. She painted landscapes in water colour during her long life and taught her daughter Helen the same skills. Many of her watercolours have been hung in buildings on the Acadia Campus. Annie died February 11, 1954 at age 87. |
