|Miss Clara Caie (1874-1955) granddaughter of Samuel Killam and daughter of Robert and Sophia Caie, born in Yarmouth. Attended the school for young ladies in London, England. She studied architecture and art. After the death of her father, Clara returned to Yarmouth and became involved in maintaining the new public library in his stead. She served on the board from 1916-1955 and was the secretary for 73 years. Through her membership in the Kritosophian Club, Clara donated many books and other materials to the Public Library. Over the ensuing years, many organizations benefited from Miss Caie's philanthropic nature. Clara and Miss Haswell Johnson developed the League of Mercy to support the Yarmouth Hospital where she also served on the board as well as that of the Old Ladies Home (now known as Sunset Terrace) The Milton Playground and the Clock in the Milton Fire Station were gifts from Clara as was the property where the Yarmouth Golf Club is located. Miss Caie also taught art classes and provided many with the means to further their education in the field of nursing.
