| Description : | Flashlight; metal, leather, glass; flask style light wrapped in brown leather; (u.c) a dome shaped glass lens; base hinged lid for batteries; top attached a rectangular metal plate "THE ORILUX/ J.H STEWARD LTD/ 406, STRAND, LONDON"; two metal knobs (left and right) one turns on light other function unknown; flashlight is contained within original fitted brown leather case with side hinged lid; two leather buckle straps attached reverse with beige stitching; inside case lid is an extra light bulb (3.5 v) |
| Commentaires : | This World War One period Officer's private purchase torch was manufactured by J.H Steward Ltd. J.H Steward ltd. was established in London, England in 1856. J.H Steward was the head optician of the company and had businesses at 406 and 66 Strand and 54 Cornhill in London. In the mid 1800's he became the optician for Her Majesty's Government and the National Rifle and national Artillery Associations. |
