Description : Bronze disc depicting an image in relief of Britannia holding a trident and wreath, surrounded by dolphins and flanked by a lion. Around the perimeter of the disc is an inscription reading He Died for Freedom and Honour.
Commentaires : Plaques of this sort were intended to be included on a soldiers tombstone but, because they were often stolen, were more commonly kept by a fallen soldier's next of kin.
Fonctions : These bronze medallions were issued to the next of kin following the death of a British or Commonwealth soldier during World War I. The name of the soldier was cast directly on the bronze, rather than being etched in later.
