| Description : | Olive drab whipcord fabric military uniform jacket. Shoulders have epaulettes each showing three stars of Bath (captain's rank) and one brass button. Jacket has four pockets; two pleated breast patch pockets with a scalloped flap and two non-pleated waist pockets with straight flaps. Jacket has a notch lapel and four main brass buttons. All buttons feature a Tudor crown, the words, "Honi soit qui mal y pense," the letters, "GR," and the words, " Royal Engineers." Both lapels bear a brass pin in the shape of a flaming grenade with the word, "UBIQUE." There are two brass belt latches on either side of the waist (no belt.) Sleeves each have cuffs that scallop to a decorative point. Back has a 33cm slit. Main lining is olive coloured artificial silk with an under lining of brown cotton twill. Sleeves are lined with ivory artificial silk. Manufacture's tag remaining. |
| Commentaires : | The British Army Royal Engineers can trace its history back to William the Conquer's military engineer. The motto, "UBIQUE" on the flaming grenade pin means "Everywhere." The Royal Engineers have taken part in every battle fought by the British Army in all parts of the world. The brass buttons all bear the Royal Cypher of King George VI; his monogram topped by a crown and encircled by a garter and the motto of the Order of the Garter, "Honi soit qui mal y pense." This translates to, "shame upon him who thinks evil upon it." |
