Description : | Churn, Butter; Wood. Believed to be made from pine. Rectangular box on top of 4 undecorated/unshaped legs. Attached to box and then attached to the rockers. Rockers are made from a board cut to the proper shape. (It was not formed by bending). Square opening on top with flat handle (no grip). There are 2 more handles on the top surface at either end. These handles are curved and allow for a persons fingers to fit through while lifting. Unique Acadian Butter churn with original rocking feature & original grayish blue milk based paint. Nails are forged, flat headed square and round reflecting use over long period of time. Acquired from Tignish area. Came with wooden paddle. Early to mid 1800's. Based on style seen in 1700's America publications. |
