Description: | Hatchel; Wood; Very early primitive Hatchel. Possible Oak. Device is made from a piece of wood with 'D" handles cut out at the ends of the board. Separator is comprised of a shallow metal dish with nail-like metal rods sharpened on the visible end. The metallic surfaces have oxidized over time and are brownish in color. |
Narrative: | Used to separate long and short fibers called tow. Purchased on PEI. Circa 1700's to 1800's. |
