Commentaires : | Taxidermy is the art of taking the skins of animals and recreating life like figures. This taxidermy collection was the work of a Chipman, New Brunswick resident, Gideon M. Brown. He was born in Chipman N.B. February 18 1861. He was the grandson of immigrants from Warwickshire England. His parents settled in Chipman. He grew up close to nature and developed a strong appreciation for wild animals. He graduated from the Northwestern School of Taxidermy in Omaha Nebraska. This institution was founded in 1903 and was one of the first to teach taxidermy by correspondence. His main occupation was farming in Chipman and he purchased 200 acres of land in May of 1891. Gideon Brown also had a successful business in ranching fur bearing animals such as fox, mink, sable, and beaver. Brown married Adaletta Pangburn of Cumberland Bay in October of 1898. His two daughters inherited his land. |
