Description : Base of monstrance is plain with a single outer rim. Sitting atop the base is a two-tiered node to which the stem of monstrance is attached. The cross of monstrance is made of walnut wood with the front being covered in two different grains of veneer. The center of cross contains the central aperture which contains a luna for the large Host. This receptacle has glass on either side. One side is attached with a hinge to allow door to open. Handle on the glass door is a gold-plated knob. A circular/ triangular-shaped latch secures door. The aperture is surrounded by and enclosed in gold-plating. The luna enclosed in aperture is inserted on a gold-plated track at base of aperture. The luna is made of two glass discs encircled with gold-plating. The two sections are hinged together and close with an " } " shaped closure. This closure slides along the track at base of aperture. Eight metallic goldplated rays radiate from central aperture. Wooden cross of monstrance is surrounded by gold-plated grapes and wheat ornamentation attached to wooden cross with screws. Case for monstrance is an hexagonal-shaped enclosure. Exterior is covered in black leatherette. Interior is lined in padded red felt and red leatherette . 7 stainless steel hinges are used to attach the two sections of case for closing.
Commentaires : The word "monstrance" or "ostensorium" signifies an instrument for showing or displaying. This sacred utensil is used in giving the Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament and in processions in which the Host is carried publicly.
Fonctions : This monstrance was used in the chapel of the convent housed by the Religious Hospitallers of St. Joseph in Miramichi, New Brunswick.

Étiquette ou poinçon : Around the outer rim of aperture on front side of monstrance, the words "ADORO.TE.DEVOTE.LATENS.DEiTAS" are engraved in black lettering. A label on the base of the monstrance reads "BERTRAND FOUCHER BELANGER INC MONTREAL". Engraved on the base in very small lettering is " M(?)ADE IN F(?)RANCE" an METAL".
