| Description: | The base is made with three separate rectangular shaped pieces of wood. The three pieces are glued together to form an elevated base, with each piece of wood decreasing in size as it rises. The wooden Crucifix is glued to the base and rises thirty centimeters above the base. The arms of the Crucifix are plain. A brass Corpus is attached to the Crucifix with small nails. A brass scrolled design with the letters: "INRI" cast on it, is attached with one small nail to the vertical arm just above the Corpus. Back of cross and base is plain. |
| Narrative: | The Crucifix is the principal ornament of the altar. It is placed on the altar to recall to the mind of he celebrant, and the people, that the Victim offered on the altar is the same as was offered on the Cross. For this reason the Crucifix must be placed on the altar as often as Mass is celebrated. The rubric of the Roman Missal prescribes that it be placed at the middle of the altar between the candlesticks, and that it be large enough to be conveniently seen by both the celebrant and the people.
