Description : Base of chalice is etched with six intricate arch designs and a floral design with 8 petals atop a large floral motif. 2.5 cm below lip of chalice is a ring of 6 intricate arch designs. At base of cup are 3 molded rings of decreasing size. A circular ring surrounds chalice halfway between base and top. This ring is etched with 6 curved lines on top and bottom. Host paten is plain on top but sits on a slightly elevated circular ring which fits inside lip of chalice. Inside ring is a floral design with 30 petals. Inside the design are words "AGNES DIE PAINS VIVID" and a picture of the Lamb of God.
Commentaires : The chalice is the cup in which the wine and water of the Eucharistic Sacrifice is contained. It is usually made either of gold or of silver. The base may be round, hexagonal, or octagonal, and should be so wide that there is no fear of the chalice tilting over. Near the middle of the stem, between the base and the cup, there should be a knob, in order that the chalice, especially after the Consecration, when the priest has his thumb and index finger joined together may be easily handled. Often this knob is adorned with precious stones. The base and cup may be embellished with pictures or emblems, even in relief, but those on the cup should be about an inch below the lip of the chalice. The cup should be narrow at the bottom, and become gradually wider as it approaches the mouth. It should be at least eight inches in height. (From "Catholic Encyclopedia")
