| Description : | Rose of Sharon pattern appliqued onto a white background. There are nine large flowers comprised of red patterned circles surrounded by teardrop-shaped petals of various red, pink, white and brown patterned fabrics. Each flower is surrounded by a ring of green leaves on a vine, each ring also has four red flower buds open to various degrees. The nine rings are surrounded by a border comprised of green strips in a somewhat irregular zig-zag pattern connected by a small red flower at each joint. |
| Commentaires : | The Rose of Sharon design is believed to be one of the oldest quilt patterns in existence. The exact date of origin is unknown, but the applique reached the height of its popularity during the 1800s. Though the quilt has roots in American history, the Rose of Sharon is actually mentioned in the Bible, and may refer to a Palestinian flower that grows on the plains of Sharon. The English translation substitutes the word rose for tulip, as is described in the original text. |
