Commentaires : | Rocking horses have a long history in many places around the world. They became increasingly popular in Great Britain during the 18th and 19th centuries as a more affluent society sought luxuries. The stand that this rocking horse has is a safety stand and indicates it was produced after 1878. Philip Marqua of Cincinnati patented the safety stand in 1878, which allowed the horse to rock back and forth without allowing it to move along a floor or become unbalanced. The horse is a "galloper," which is a type within the variety of rocking horses, due to its outstretched legs. Horses could be depicted going at various speeds. The name of this particular horse is known to be "Cherry." |
