Description : |
Ferry has a natural wood bottom, with the sides painted in a medium grey/green. It has a grey painted deck, white metal upper trim, and is an accurate scale replica model of the M.V. Lady White Head ferry which served the island of White Head, several trips daily, for 36 years.

Commentaires : |
The M.V. Lady White Head is a ferry which ran between Ingalls Head, Grand Manan, and White Head Island from 1976-2012. The ferry crossing takes 20 minutes and is free of charge. Although the population of White Head has declined in recent years, there are still in 2014 about150 full time residents on the island and it has a general store, a church and an elementary school for grades 1-5. A new ferry came into service in 2012. This model of the ferry was built by Ted Corbett who oversaw the building of the M.V. Lady White Head ferry and was donated to the Museum by Ted in 2013.

Fonctions : |
The M.V. Lady White Head was built by Apex Industries, Inc. of Moncton, NB. The ferry was completed in 1976 and Ted Corbett built the model of the ferry in 1977 and donated it to the Museum on July 6, 2013. Ted worked for Apex Industries for 47 years and was the draftsman and project manager for the M.V. Lady White Head ferry. The ferry was built in Moncton and lauched in the Petitcodiac River. She spent a week of testing at the Dorchester Cape Floating Dock, then travelled down to White Head Island where, although built to last 25 years, she was in service for 36, being replaced by a new ferry in 2012. In a publicity shot two after she was built, Premier Hatfield was photographed cutting the ribbon for the official launch. Ted Corbett also donated a photo album documenting the building, launch, and publicity of the ferry which is in our Archives. The Halifax Naval Architects who designed the ferry were "Evans, Yeatman & Endall". Ted Corbett retired from his career with Apex Industries Inc. in 2012.
