Commentaires : | This flag appears to be a variation on the official flag, and historically there were a number of unofficial versions of this flag. The Canadian Red Ensign was the de facto national flag of Canada from 1868-1922, defaced with the arms of the four original provinces. From 1922-1957, and from 1957-1965, there were other versions of the Red Ensign defaced with the Royal Arms of Canada. This flag most resembles the pre-1922 flag with regard to "the emblem in the field", but it does not match exactly any flag that was found when being researched: "the emblem in the field varied greatly through the time period, depending on the provincial membership in the Confederation and the whims of flag manufacturers." There are nine provinces represented on this flag. From top left to bottom right they are 1st row: Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia; 2nd row: New Brunswick, British Columbia, Prince Edward Island; 3rd row: Saskatchewan, Alberta, Manitoba. |
