Commentaires : Frederick Millidge Sproul was born on 26 April 1854 at Hampton, King's County. Fred was the son of James Wesley Sproul and Elizabeth Ann DeMille. On 19 April 1881 Fred was promoted to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in the 8th Regiment of Cavalry of the New Brunswick Militia. Fred married Dorcas Aimie Smith, daughter of Theodore Smith, on 11 April 1883 at 64 Church Street, Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, USA. In 1899 Fred appeared at the enquiry for the Sargeson Bridge train accident to represent Alferetta Duncan who was the wife of John Duncan who died in the crash. During the Boer War Fred fought with a cavalry regiment and would have used the helmet on display. The helmet was standard issue to soldiers in the Boer War and the pin on the top could be screwed off and replaced with a button. Fred was later one of the members of the 32nd Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick for King's County from 1908 to 1912. Fred was also at one time register of deeds for Kings County, and leader of the Conservative party. Fred died at the age of 79 on 24 October 1933. He is buried in the Hampton Rural Cemetery.
