| Description: | Pair of heritage long reach skates, are marked Size 11 ½. The skate blades measure 13inches in length and are marked Left and Right. The heel and tow straps of leather, which fastened the skates to the footwear (boots) are missing. The adjustment bars could be tightened or loosened to fit on the boot by turning the screws. The skates are steel and are bronze in color. PATENTED numbers are clearly marked on each skate. On the side of the blades THE STARR MFG CO. MAKERS HALIFAX NS CANADA and No.7 ACME CLUB FORBES PATENT. |
| History of Use: | Long distance ice skating was common in the period 1860-1900 on the lakes and rivers in New Brunswick. Skating was a practical form of winter transportation and the long reach skates, commonly called reachers are used for speed skating. |
