The interior of the box is divided into multiple sections and features a large section holding a paper scroll that rolls on two wood rods with turning knobs on the exterior of the box. The educational scroll contains 26 pannels with various illustrations on a variety of subjects. The bottom of the box features a map of the world with statistical data. The lid interior is green in colour and is a Hy-San Slate Board. When closed the lid is held in place by metal fixings that snap it into place.
Commentaires : When Frank Beard was giving his famous chalk talks at Chautauqua in 1886, two young men of Jamestown, N. Y., were inspired by him to bring out a device for arousing the possibility of self expression in every child. One worked out the educational, the other the mechanical features. Upon completion of model, Bishop Vincent, head of the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle, warmly commended the idea. From its close association with the Chautauqua movement, it was named "Chautauqua." More information on file.
