| Fonctions : | Hon. A.R. McClelan (04 January 1830 30 January 1917), respected political figure, prominent businessman and significant benefactor to his community, wore this tuxedo when attending formal government ceremonies or events during his many years of political service. He was elected as Liberal member for Albert to the New Brunswick Legislative Assembly in 1854, and served until confederation in 1867, when he was appointed to the Senate of Canada. After serving as Senator for 29 years, he was appointed Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick in 1896 and held the position until 1902, when he retired from public life. McClelan returned to Victoria Manor, his stately residence in Riverside-Albert, Where he and he and wife, Anna, enjoyed an active and social community life.The heritage tuxedo was worn by Mr. James West, portraying Hon. A.R. McClelan at several community heritage celebration events, such as the reenactment of the official opening of Riverside Consolidated School and the RCS 100th Anniversary Tea at Victoria Manor in 2005. |
