| Description: | Cast iron heater with a wick, that burned paraffin oil, Heater has a flat plate on top so that in the home, "flat ireons" could be placed to be heated, and then used to press wrinkles from clothing. The heater had an Isinglass window, (2x3) that provided light. Thin, transparent sheets of isinglass or isinglass (made from crystallized mica) were used in lanterns and stoves in the 1800s and 1900s because Mica was heat resistant and less likely to shatter than glass. |
