Narrative: | This churn dates back to the early 1900's and was used to make butter on the farm of Mrs. Muriel (Lutes) Sikorski's father, Fred Lutes. Butter was made by the use of sweet cream put in churn and the action of the dasher moving up and down would turn the cream to butter. The liquid left would be buttermilk. The butter would be washed with cold water and salt would be worked into the butter. Sometimes yellow food colouring would be added but otherwise the butter would be pale in colour. |
