Description : | A metal raisin seeder with a hopper to put the raisins in. A crank with a black knob, to turn the wheels to push the raisins out of the hopper to remove the seeds. It has a curved part from the hopper to a clamp with a thumb screw part to attach it to a table, shelf, etc. |
Commentaires : | To aid home makers in preparing healthy and economical meals, the Enterprising Manufacturing Company of Pennsylvania manufactured labour-saving devices such as raisin and grape seeders. The idea with these devices was that before the era of the Thompson Seedless raisins, it was very tedious work to remove all those seeds . An advertisement which appeared in the St. John Daily Sun on October 23, 1897 claims that the genuine Enterprise Raisin Seeder will remove every seed without waste, seeding a pound of raisins in less than five minutes. |
Fonctions : | You had to wet the raisins and feed them into the hopper, turning the crank at the same time. You could only sprinkle two or three raisins in at one time so that the roller could grasp them. The surface of the roller had to be kept clean and free from sugar, so that the seeds could be extracted without wasting the pulp of the raisins. When the crank would begin to turn hard, it had to be washed under hot water. |
