| Narrative: | Originally called the "The Borderer and Westmorland and Cumberland Advertiser", "The Borderer" was founded by Edward Tryon Bowes (18131868) in 1856 in Sackville N.B. During it's early years of publication, it was the only newspaper available between Saint John and Halifax. In 1879, "The Borderer" merged with "The Chignecto Post" to create "The Chignecto Post and Borderer". The publications included several pages of poetry, international news, letters to the editor, and finally advertisements. The cost of a subscription to this digest was "six and three pence per annum payable in advance". In 1896, the paper was renamed the "Semi-Weekly Post" and from 1904 to 1946 it was renamed once more to the "Sackville Post". |
| History of Use: | The Chignecto Post and Borderer" was a semi-weekly publication in which subscribers would enjoy works by Canadian poets, the latest international news, discussions about topical issues, and various opinion pieces. The digest would have been meant to be read casually over a number of sittings. "The Anniversary Number" included much of the same articles, however, it also included several biographies about notable local individuals including the late Edward Tryon Bowes. |
