Description : | A black and white portrait of a wedding couple. The dark haired, dark eyed man is standing with his hand on an arm of a chair (high backed with a lot of carvings on the back). The groom is wearing a dark coloured suit (knee length double breasted jacket), a white shirt and tie. He has a boutonniere in his lapel. His shoes are dark on the bottom and a lighter colour on top. The dark haired, dark eyed bride is wearing a floor length veil, with flowers for a head piece. Her dress is high necked with ruffles around the neck, long sleeved with ruffles at the wrist, floor length dress with three rows of ruffles near the bottom. The top has a ruffle around the bust line. The bride is holding a bouquet of white cascading flowers, greenery and tied with a white ribbon. This portrait is mounted on a dark gray matte. |
Commentaires : | The Lutes Mountain Baptist Church, Lutes Mountain, New Brunswick was built in 1883, and continued to be a church until 1974. In 1975, it became the Lutz Mountain Meeting House - the site of The Lutz Mountain Heritage Museum. This is a picture of the very first couple married in the Lutes Mountain United Baptist Church, Lutes Mountain, Westmorland County, New Brunswick. Solomon (Saul) and Minnie (Somers) Trites were married October 8,1902. Solomon was the son of Chipman and Martha Trites. Minnie was the daughter of Charles and Catherine Somers. Solomon was twenty five years old when he got married - at that time he resided at Riviere du Loup, Quebec and was a Station Master. Minnie Somers was twenty six years old and lived at home in Lutes Mountain, New Brunswick. Their witnesses' were W. E. Wilson, Moncton, New Brunswick and A. L. Trites, Westville, Nova Scotia. They were married by J. Williams from Saint John, New Brunswick. |
