| Narrative: | The ARP (Air Raid Patrol) wardens--often volunteers--were responsible for ensuring Moncton houses had adequate blackout curtains on their windows. In doing so, they would patrol the city's streets at night and alert citizens if any light was visible. Other responsibilities included handing out gas masks, organizing and staffing public air raid shelters, reporting bomb damage, and assessing local need for assistance. The wardens were organized by national governments and delivered by local authorities where necessary. |
