Description : | Forged iron pincers with four-pronged claw and "O" shaped handles. |
Fonctions : | The exact use for this set of pincers is unknown, but it may be deduced that they were used to grab and hold something round which the person gripping the implement would not have wanted to come into contact with, such as coal. A similar implement to this device is called the "iron spider" which was used as a torture device centuries ago. This device was said to be used in one of two fashions: the claws were heated and used to remove the breasts of female victims or the victim was suspended by the soft tissue of the buttocks, belly or breasts. The most popular design was the four- or six- pronged pincer, but smaller models were also forged for specific uses on the eyes or ears. |
