Description : This is a balance made of a dark colored metal. The balance has a horizontal metal piece with hooks on each end on the lower side. There are a series of curving and geometric designs painted in red on the horizontal piece. There is a large metal indicator in the center that has two identical shapes on each side joined by the long metal extension that is above the horizontal piece. The indicator has a flared ends on both sides with the pointed tips facing down. A bolt runs through the flared parts and the indicator hinges on this. There is a straight vertical metal rod in the center of the upper edge, with the extension of the metal indicator able to pass over it.
Fonctions : This is a hanging balance, used for check the weight of items. Most likely it was not used for fine measurements, as it is solidly built. Precision balances were built as lightly as possible.
