| Description : | The Avco World Trophy, which was awarded to the winner of the World Hockey Association (WHA). This is one of three cups. The Winnipeg Jets were the last team to win the Avco Cup, so as a result the team was allowed to keep it when the league folded following the 1979 season. Designed by Donald W. Murphy. Globe is incased in lucite.The globe looks like it is 3 1/2 inches in diameter when in fact it is 5 inches high and 3 inches wide. The Silver plated Britannia was done by Henrey Birks & sons of Canada. The trophy stands 3 1/2 feet tall and weighs 75 pounds. The Design fee was $5000, and the plating cost around $8000.
