Description : | Jessie Love farm house. Built by George Salt with Jessie Love. Original structure built in 1893 with additions circa 1899 and 1913. Jessie and Martha Love moved to Burnaby with their family in 1893 to start a fruit ranch and market garden on Cumberland Road. Love took an active interest in community affairs and served on the School Board and also as a Councilor in 1901 and from 1904 - 1907. The house is a typical example of an early Burnaby farmhouse with later additions. The original "Pioneer Tent" house form was updated with the addition of Craftsman styled features such as eave brackets and a large verandah. Inside the house has many unique features such as decorated tin ceilings and a cedar paneled kitchen. The house was moved from its original site to the museum in 1988 and its restoration is ongoing to restore it to its 1920's appearance. Deer Lake Park Heritage Resource Inventory, 1998. |
