Description : FLUTING IRON - Fluting iron is homemade. It has a primitive wooden handle to which a curved sheet metal base has been screwed. Tin fluting has been riveted to the sheet metal. The handle is 13cm long while the whole stands 8.2cm high. FLUTING IRON BASE.- Manufactured by the North Bros. Mfg. Co. of 'Philada Pa.' The base is made in two sections both cast iron. The sections are hinged, the top section being 8.1cm wide by 17.6cm long. The top is fluted (this fluting does not correspond with that on the iron mentioned above) and has been plated with silver plating which has worn off in several places. The bottom section forms a small pocket 7.7cm wide by 16cm long and 1.5cm deep. The bottom has four small feet cast as an integral part. There is considerable surface rust inside the pocket. METAL PAD - This piece of cast iron is 6.5cm wide by 14.7cm long and is 1.1cm thick. It has three slopping perforations in it, suitable for, inserting a stovepipe lifter, The bottom of this pad has four small circular metal feet. There is quite a lot of surface rust on this article. Its purpose is to provide heat for the iron. All of the above items were exhibited in the 1977 'Collecting' display.
