Description : RIFLE CARTRIDGES: Copper, cylindrical in shape, narrowed about 2 cm from the top and the base is slightly wider - about 2mm - than the body of the cartridge. The words 'W.R.A. Co.' and 45 - 75 W.C.F.' are written on the base of the cartridge. (On some of these cartridges, the writing is partially obscured by dirt.) These shells are the same as 984.01.01. to .0235., except they are in poorer condition. These shells are dug up from the original site of Kootenay Post at Fort Steele. The dump was located 100 yds north of the Officer's quarters. See temporary specimen receipt. The ' W.R.A. CO.' stands for the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. The 45 - 75 W.C.F.is the calibre and and that it is a centre fire cartridge, Winchester centre fire.. The Sears catalogue 1897, mentions 45 - 75 calibre empty Winchester rifle shells for the model 1876. MEASUREMENTS: 4.7cm x 1.5cm di. x 5.1cm circ. at base.; Metal, Copper
