Description: CHAIR - Mission style, dark brown stained oak frame, arms and legs, dark orange vinyl upholstered back and lined seat. Chair is very angular wood. Front pieces forming legs and arms flare out at bottom and narrow upwards then widen into square shape at base of arm, at this poinmt (top of leg piece - front of arm) there is a thistle like design carved into the wood. The wood arms are actually elongated boxes, the lid of the box (2.0cm x 17. cm x 64.5cm) is fastened inside by two brass hinges along the outside edge of the arm and held by a fine brass chain which is attached on the inside of the box and lid at the back. The lids, when closed, form arm rests. The sides of the chair are formed by a rectangular crosspiece at seat level to the top of which are attached three vertical rectangular slats which support the arm box. The back of the chair is formed by two vertical wood pieces at the sides which form narrow back legs, then widen gradually to their widest point at the top of the back of the chair. The top of the two side back pieces are joined by a rectnagular crosspiece. There are two more cross pieces on the chair, one at the front which is concave on the bottom edge supports the seat; the second is at the back and is rectangular (similar to the side crosspieces) ,and supports the seat. The upholstewry is padded in the front and back of the back rest and kis attached with brass tascks along all the outside edges. The top side of the seat is lined with orange vinyl glued to a wooden seat board. The underside of the seat board is covered with a piece of black gauze like cotton which is stretched over the area and fastened to the chair along the inside bottom edges with staples. The under side of each leg has a cylindrical metal socket. Engraved on brass placque which is attached to the chair's left side cross piece is outlined in 'History' section.
