Description : SQUARE, TRY - A wooden lightweight square. A square consists of a blade or tongue set into a stock which is thicker than the blade itself. A try square has the blade set at right angles to the stock. The blade of this square is a rectangular piece of wood stained brown, 62.0cm long 6.5 cm wide and 0.5cm thick. 'N. SMITH' is engraved on both sides of the blade, 5.0cm from the top. The lower corner of the blade is worn. The stock of the square is the same colour and made of the same wood as the blade. It is 6.8 cm high 29.3cm long and 1.7cm thick. One end of the stock is rounded. The other end of the stock has a slot, into which the blade is fitted. The side of the blade does not fit flush with end of the stock. The blade extends 0.9cm from the end of the stock. The bottom of the blade is flush with the bottom of the stock. The blade is held in place by three wooden dowels through the stock and blade and a tongue and groove fitting between the blade and stock. 'N. SMITH' is engraved three times in a triangular arrangement on both sides of the stock. An indiscernible red mark, possibly a six enclosed in a circle, is handwritten on one side of the stock.; height 62 cm; length 30 cm
