| Description : | Made from ceramic material and has a shiny white glaze finish. It is shaped like a 3 4 flattened sphere. Assembly consists of a metal spindle with a ferrule at either end and two leather pads between the ferrule. This assembly is attached to the back of the knob. Knob dimensions 5.7cm diameter, 18.2cm circumference, 2.8cm thick. Many glaze hairline cracks. Doorknob back is indented with spindle assembly inserted in the back middle. Spindle is squared metal bar, 11.0cm long and 0.7cm side. A metal socket or ferrulwe sits over the end of the spindle that is inserted into the knob. It is 2.4 cm long and cylindrical in shape, 2.5cm diameter. It narrows over 0.5cm of the length to a diamter of 1.4cm. The ferrule interior is squared to fit the spindle. A round hole 0.7 cm in diameter runs through the upper side of the ferrule. A screw inserted in this hole attaches the ferrule to the spindle. A second ferrule 3.2cm long is located at the oppossite end of the spindle. It is also cylindrical in shape with a diamter of 1.5cm. The cylinder has a lip on the inside end which is 1.9cm in diameter. It also has a ridge 1.0cm from the other end with a diameter of 2.4 cm. A round hole 0.7cm in diameter runs through the side of the socket. The hole is 0.7cm from the lip. A screw is inserted into this hole. As with the other ferrule the inside of this cylinder is squared to accommodate the spindle. There are two patches of solder on this ferrule. Both ferrules have remnants of black paint or japan finish on them. All of the metal shows rust. Two washer like leather pads are situated on the spindle. One is square in shape, the other rectangular. Both have a hole through the centre. The spindle is inserted through these holes. One pad is 3.2cm square and 0.5cm thick.
