Description : | One silver, valved cornet with various attachments and case. Three valved cornet with "No. 1744 Henry D Istin Maker n31 Cranbourne St Leicester Square London CL s 1" engraved on horn, other pieces include three straight extensions of differing lengths, one mouthpiece, one music sheet holder, one round extension, and leather wrapped wooden case with attached hinged lid, lined on the outside in leather and on the inside with blue velvet, brass hinges and lock. |
Fonctions : | Once belonged to Mark Bate (first Mayor of Nanaimo) who was a member of the Nanaimo Silver Cornet Band and was for a time bandmaster (c.1889). Was also played by his stepson H. Harrison in boys Brigade Band see file 1997. Mr. Campbell of Nanaimo Concert Band remembers Mark Bate's grandson playing the cornet in the 1950s. Was in the Bastion collection from at least the 1970s. |
