| Fonctions : | Part of large outdoor sign for Regent Tailors etc. originally located at 324 West Hastings. The sign hung across the street from the Sally Shop, neon sign H996.22.29. Technical drawings for part of the sign exist H996.22.57a-c. The main sign can shows in a photograph of Hastings Street in 1946, CVA 588-4467. See photograph of the sign in situ in Doc. Spec. file. Designed and manufactured by the Neon Products company of Vancouver. Established in 1928, Neon Products was the original and most prolific manufacturer of neon signs in Western Canada. Signs produced by the company were generally custom made and leased, not sold, to clients. Neon Products maintained and repaired the signs for an annual fee. During the height of neon's popularity in the 1950's, Neon Products was responsible for the production of some of Vancouver's most famous neon signs including the Regent Tailor's sign, the Aristocratic Restaurant sign and the enormous BOW MAC auto dealership sign. Today, Neon Products is one of the largest lease/custom-design sign companies in the world. |
