Description: | a) teapot from Tea Service with b) lid for teapot. Made of white china with an orange band with gold greek key trim and a maroon transfer print of statue King William III and the date 1690 on a plinth. Possibly celebrating 200th anniversary of the Battle of the Boyne. |
History of Use: | Part of large tea set given to donor's grandfather, William Hurst, a merchant of Brampton, by Alexander Franklin Campbell in thanks for his assistance in Campbell's 1890 election as MP for Algoma. A.F. Campbell, a leading member of the Brampton Orange Lodge and the founder of the Conservator newspaper, had run for the Conservatives in his own Peel riding in 1886, but had lost to the Liberal candidate. |
