Description : | Colour tint postcard of the Globe Hotel. A cement sidewalk and dirt road appear in front of the hotel. On left is a tree which obscures side view of hotel. Printed in red ink across top right: "Globe Hotel, Collingwood, Ont., Canada". The postcard has a postmark on reverse which reads: "Collingwood -AM -NO 3-13-ONT." A letter addressed to "Mrs. J. Connolly -Belhaven -Ont" is written on right side. A brief letter written in black ink reads: "Dear Grandma,- Please knit -me a pair of mits-Ewart's mits -are lovely. -Harvard". 1 cent stamp is attached on top right of reverse. |
Commentaires : | The Globe Hotel, eventually renovated and renamed the Mountain View Hotel, is located on Huron Street, on the Northeast corner of Huron Street and Hurontario Street. History:"The old Globe Hotel, now the Mountain View, was among the largest, classiest and busiest of Collingwood's many hotels in the bustling heydays of the railway. Founded in 1856, one of the town's first, The Globe offered all the modern conveniences of the turn of the century- like electric lights and hot water." Reference: The Enterprise-Bulletin Newspaper |
