Description : B/W photograph of the interior of E.R. Carpenter's Drug Store in 1891. There are counters on both sides and shelves behind the counters stocked with bottles. There is a pot-bellied stove in centre of the floor at rear. Two men are standing to the left of the stove. A man in a long coat is speaking with another man behind the counter at the back of the store on right. A woman dressed in a long coat and cap is seated on a stool at left. An ornate chandelier is hanging from the ceiling. The man on left, in foreground, is identified as E.T. Wallace. The man on the right towards the front is identified as T.W. Tyson. Written on the bottom of the photo in black ink: "ET Wallace E.R Carpenter's Drug Store- 1891 TW Tyson.
Commentaires : "E.R. Carpenter was the oldest established druggist in Collingwood. He came to Collingwood in 1858 and entered the employ of Paul, Richmond & Co., general merchants. In 1863 he started a drug business, in partnership with one Crowe, on the West side of Hurontario Street. He bought out the business in 1864. He later moved the business to the East side of Hurontario Street c.1875." Reference: Jubilee History of the Town of Collingwood, 1887.
