| Description : | Black beaver top hat. This hat has a leather band on the interior, and a black ribbon band on the exterior. The opening of the hat is 6 inches by 8 inches, the brim diameter is 10 ¾ inches, and the hat is 5 ½ inches high. |
| Commentaires : | Martin family of Scarborough (Aberfoyle Farm Lot 31, Con. D). When the top hat was first worn in 1797, in a world where men wore tricornered hats, it caused a riot, and its inventor (John Heatherington) was ordered to pay a fine. |
