Description : Brass carbide lamp; two chambers; rubber seal between chambers; nickel-plated reflector, burner with flint mounted on reflector; large hook used to hang light. Calcium carbide is put in the lower chamber. The upper reservoir is then filled with water. A threaded valve or other mechanism is used to control the rate at which the water is allowed to drip into the lower chamber. This process produces acetylene gas. This in turn controls the flow rate of the gas and the size of flame at the burner, and thus the amount of light produced.
Commentaires : Used by miners while working underground.
Fonctions : Used underground in local mines. First donated to the Timmins Chamber of Commerce in the 1960's, while waiting for a local museum.
