Description : | The Payne brothers of Warsaw Ontario built this basswood dugout canoe, it is an innovative adaptation of traditional construction techniques, in the late-1800s. Its basswood hull is worked to an even half-inch thickness and its beautiful lines show the craftsmanship that went into making this dugout canoe. It is said that this canoe is one of three built from the same basswood tree. |
Fonctions : | Jacob Henry & William Alfred Payne of (Warsaw, Ontario) carved the dugout canoe in the latter half of the 19th Century. The canoe was carved using hand tools such as an ax and adze. This canoe is one of three known surviving examples of the Payne Brothers' work. |
