| Description : | Christening gown, white cotton with extremely delicate floral Ayrshire embroidery on v-shaped front breast panel, shoulders and bottom front of skirt. All around bottom of skirt is delicate cutwork. Two layers of ruffles run up front of gown, with edges in delicate cutwork. Tie at back . Bobbin lace around openings of short sleeves. Line of drawn thread detail around waist. Ruffle with delicate lace cutwork on back of collar. Made by Ayreshire cottagers, embroidered on lawn in mide-19th century. Worn by Mrs. Parker's father in 1852. |
