Description : | This object consists of two main parts; a long , curved wooden handle and a brass pot-shaped piece. The handle is sculptured with bevelled lines. It may be varnished as the end has a sheen appearance. The handle attaches to the brass component by way of a brass connector or holder. The handle is fitted securely and fastened with a hinge to the pot end. The surface of the pot is a lid displaying a simple, stylized design. A flower is surrounded by three groups of lines and a repeated leaf and berry(?) motif completes the perimeter of the overall design. The motif specifically includes four berries (?) or circles and one of them is a pierced hole. Due to the simple plain nature of the design, this object appears hand - crafted. Also, the hardware and irregular appearance of attachments give this impression. The lid encloses a solid pot, which is proportioned to the length of the handle. This object appears to have an aesthetic and functional purpose. |
Commentaires : | Dorothy Wyatt's photo album, 1908-1915, which shows this piece sitting on the floor in front of the living room fireplace, to the right side. Un-popped popcorn kernels still in bed warmer. James Edward Wyatt used to read to his daughters Dorothy and Wanda Wyatt at the fireplace and pop popcorn in the bed warmer. |
