Description : A letter (b) attached to a note (a) that was dropped from a plane in Tweed, Ontario, after the Armistice was signed. (a) The paper is discoloured and folded, with pencil handwriting on it that reads, "Washington = The world war came to an end at 6 o'clock this morning, by Washington and Canadian time. An official of the State Department made this official announcement - "The Armistice was signed by the German representatives at midnight". Hostilities to cease 11 a.m., Paris time." The attached letter (b) is from the donor, handwritten in blue ink. The paper is folded in half and has an impressed monogram at the top of the letter. It was written Sept. 28, 1971.
Fonctions : The letter was dropped from an unidentified plane as it flew over Tweed, Ontario, on November 11, 1918. The donor's father, Charles Frederick Fawcett, picked it up and gave it to the donor's mother, Eva Ermina Fawcett. She kept it as a keepsake and stored it away; it was not discovered until after her death in 1934.
