Description : | A black and white photograph of Lucy Davis Springer, taken shortly after her engagement to George Ireland. Lucy is wearing a white dress and is standing in a studio. Her hair is up and held in place with a large bow. The bodice of her dress is ruffled with long sleeves. Her hands are behind her back. The photograph is mounted on thick beige mat board. In the bottom right corner, there is a studio mark, reading _Van Norman, Hamilton, Ont._. |
Fonctions : | Lucy Davis Springer (1885-1938) was the youngest of 14 children born to David Springer and Elizabeth Ghent, who lived on Highway 5 (Dundas Street). Lucy married George Ireland (1885-1972) in 1917. They had one daughter, Lucie Marie, in 1923. Lucy was an accomplished pianist, having earned her A.T.C.M. She taught piano and was always on call to accompany the local vocalists. She played the organ at St. John's Anglican Church on Highway 5. Lucy passed away in 1938 of an unknown illness. |
