Description : A sepia coloured photograph of Helen Mary Ireland taken on her 3rd birthday. Her name and the date _Feb. 21, 1921_ are written on the back. She has short hair and is wearing a light coloured dress, with white stockings and dark coloured shoes. She is sitting on a wooden bench with a light coloured backdrop.
Fonctions : Helen Mary Ireland, born 21 Feb 1918 in Hamilton, was the only child of Mary Jane (Daisy) Allen and Charles Tupper Ireland. Daisy passed away in 1920 when Helen was only 2 years old (flu epidemic); Helen went to live with her Aunt Maud in Hamilton (sister of Charles), and then her Aunt Nell (another sister) from 1930-1948 and went to McMaster University; she then moved to Lakefield, Ontario until 1951. Helen was a Case Worker for the Children's Aid Society in Hamilton from 1959-1983. In 1985, she became the Executor of Marie Ireland Bush's estate and was responsible for donating all of the Ireland House furnishings to the Museum.

Helen married Charles Clelland Caldwell on 17 Nov 1948 in Hamilton. Charles, born 26 April 1919, died of a heart attack due to complications from a surgery on 13 March 1959, when he was only 39 years of age. He was a manager of the Royal Bank in Aldershot.
