Description : | The iron can stamper consists of an oval base, on top of which is mounted the stamping mechanism. A lever at the back of the stamper is pressed in to operate it. The original black-paint covering is flaking off, and the stamper is beginning to rust. |
Commentaires : | Can stampers like these were given by the Newfoundland government to lobster fishermen who processed and canned their own lobster. By 1920, there were over 20 family-run lobster factories in the community of Cow Head. |
