Description : | The book stand is made from one piece of wood (likely rosewood). The wood has been carved into four planks, which are joined at a common point to form an "x." Hinges allow the top two planks to be adjusted, which widens the angle of the "x." The stand is decorated with extensive carvings, which appear to be in an eastern or Arabic motif. |
Commentaires : | The eastern or Arabic decorative suggest that this was a Koran stand. Indeed, the folding design is typical of Koran stands common in Islamic homes or mosques. It is not known how it came to be in Cow Head. |
Fonctions : | The book stand was owned by Dr. Henry N. Payne and family in Cow Head. Dr. Payne kept it near his bed, and it held his bible. |
