Commentaires : | Chests of this type with attached handles were made in England and outport Newfoundland to store clothing or other personal belongings, often for travelling. In Newfoundland, in particular, fishermen living on the Avalon and Bonavista Peninsulas took these boxes with them when they went fishing for cod off the coast of Labrador. |
Fonctions : | Believed to be owned by John Bingley Garland, owner/operator of the Garland mercantile fishing properties in Trinity, occupant of the Lester-Garland House, and first Speaker of the Newfoundland House of Assembly, 1832. |
